WHAT I STAND FOR

I stand for fairness and equality. I believe that we are all made one and the same and thus should be treated equally. We should not be little others. The poor should have the same rights as the rich. Only then can justice prevail. We live in a world full of biases wherein some people think that they are the superior being. Education, health services and other needs should not be limited to the fortunate and if the poor cannot afford them, then it shall be given by those who can. The weak stand no chance because they do not have the power.  Take racial discrimination for example. The Black, White, and Asian should be able to be in the same place at the same time without having to hear comments about each other’s race. It would be easier that way, right? And yet instead of being “friendly”, we tend to be protective of ourselves and judgemental of others because we place stereotypes everywhere. Stereotyping is not healthy. Not all Blacks are criminals. Maybe some become such because they were seriously labelled, continuously branded and they tend to embrace it. Such notion sticks to their mind. It is actually a good thing that some films today let black guys play the role of good guys instead of the movies before wherein they are always the bad guys. Then we have the homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders. Do we easily think that they have not been through enough emotional (maybe even physical) pain? And yet, we still cannot find it in our hearts to accept them? I honestly do not think that God hates them. God loves everyone and He always has a reason for everything. They are not causing us any harm so what do we even have against them that makes them so unlikeable? Physical abuse is also one of the most pathetic and worst ways to show power. Imagine: A father beating his own child; an employer forcing her helper to eat cockroaches as punishment; a taxi driver who drags and rapes an innocent girl; a teacher who hits her students. Sadly, these are the kind of things that we find in the news every day. The world that God has made for us to take care of, as well as the human beings He created, has become chaotic. How long should we carry on like this? How long can we stand and watch at one side while others are being pushed down to the ground? I believe that peace is attainable but we cannot achieve it unless we take a stand. We have to have peace within ourselves first. We should practice doing something that will make us feel good and, most importantly, guilt-free. The problem is, our conscience is all messed up. We find it hard to determine what is right from wrong. Still, we have to continuously ask God for guidance. He has all the answers.  I stand for those who are hurt but still fighting. I stand for those who are broken because of our society’s cruelty. I stand for the weak and the abused. I stand for those who are victims of our unjust practices. I stand for justice. I stand for peace.

DIY Diaries: Braided T-shirt Bracelets

So I was checking a lot of online shops yesterday and almost all of them have cute & unique accessories ( I even ordered one). I wanted to buy them all but as usual, I'm broke. :( So a bright idea came to me..
Why not make one? I was so excited that I quickly searched the net for different braiding styles and then I decided on what materials to use. & finally, I made my own braided bracelet! It's super easy! I swear!

Things you'll need:

1. Old T-shirts you don't use
2. Shoe laces or I.D laces
3. Glue ( you can use mighty bond too!)
4. Scissors
5. Sanrio

STEP 1: Cut the shirt

Cut your shirt into strips about 1 inch thick. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be perfect. :)

STEP 2: Pull the ends

Pull the ends of the strips HARD. they will end up looking like these.

STEP 3: Tie & Secure

Cut your shoe lace (sorry I forgot to take a picture) into 3 and partner to each strips. You'll now have three parts. Then tie the end with a sanrio. I taped it because it would be hard to braid it if it's not secured.

STEP 4: Braid

Once you've secured it, gather into three parts, then braid. Secure the end with a sanrio.

STEP 5: Cut

Make sure that your braid is tight enough, then cut the excess.

STEP 6: Glue

You're almost done! Put glue on both ends and connect it. ( I recommend sew-no-more for this. You can find it in any hardware stores)

STEP 7: Seal it

Get another strip from your shirt and use it to cover the ends.

Seal it & you're done!

Well, this isn't as perfect as those you see online but practice makes perfect! I think I'll be making more of these! <3

Comfort food at South Diner!

It has been raining non-stop this week because of hanging habagat & it's not just any ordinary rain. I mean heavy rains, strong winds, knee deep floods, stranded vehicles.. just a total disaster! Classes are suspended until now (dunno if we have classes tomorrow) and people are trapped in their house. It's really really heart breaking to see the Philippines like this. I hope the rain stops and Mr. Sun comes out. This has to stop.

Anyway, though it was raining hard yesterday, my family decided to eat dinner outside ( it was 11pm. Weird, I know ). My dad suggested that we try South Diner since it was strongly recommended by his friends. So, we did. We arrived there at around 11:45pm. Luckily they were still open since they close at 12. So we sat down and ordered and waited.

The place was very old school. Cool! It was like a 50s or 60s diner full of vintage stuffs much like Johnny Rocket's. Then our food arrived and WOAH! The serving size was just superb. We got the cheese burger, tower of pancakes, the ultimate omelet, crispy chicken with rice & gravy and toasts with sausage. Prices range from 120php-180php. The pancakes were my favorite! They were just too awesome! They also have a wide variety of "comfort foods". Actually, their menu consists of comfort foods so it was perfect for a cold weather. The staffs were also very accommodating. We'll definitely go back to try other things! :)

(sorry for the low quality photos, just used my phone for these)

New

Hello new blog!

This is not my first time blogging but I made this not-so-personal blog because the other blog I have is.. well.. too personal. So here I am! Also, I decided to somehow be specific in what I blog here rather than be an all-around-the-sun blog. So I decided to make this a FOOD & FASHION blog.

Food. because I love eating & I noticed that my iphone is already loaded with pictures of food and restaurants so I said why not post this in a blog rather than just instagram (btw, my ig account is marnellijelly). I am also obsessed with cooking so I may post my own recipes from time to time. :)

Fashion. Well.. I can't tell you that I am very fashion forward but I do appreciate fashion! Although my fashion sense is quite boring & casual unlike those other fashion bloggers who are super used to walking in killer heels. I guess I always go for comfort and color. But I do love shopping so much!

Oh, I almost forgot! I'm Marnelli Gaerlan, 18, still a student & still waiting for my dreams to come true. (haha)

If you read this then thank you for spending/wasting time in my blog. Feel free to follow or comment if you want to. I shall try my best to post something with sense! :)
